The UCD Student Archaeology Journal

Trowel XV
Ready for Launch

Picture
Take a look at the articles which will feature in this year's Trowel – we have articles on the similarities between modern Jewish burial traditions and those of prehistoric Ireland, the social role of Bronze Age metalworkers, the important implications of archaeogenetics, the search for the Templars in Ireland and much more! Volume XV features a brand new section, UCDig, which details the excavation exploits of UCD's student excavator across the British Isles

We're delighted to announce that Volume XV of Trowel will be launched on Thursday 20th November on the occassion of the UCD Archaeology Society Inaugural lecture. If you wish to pre-order your copy of Trowel, just email us at trowelucd@gmail.com and we will either reserve it for you to pick up at the launch, or ship it to your chosen delivery address.

Call for Papers
The editors of Trowel are delighted to announce that we are currently looking for contributions for Volume XV!

Trowel provides an excellent platform for undergraduates, postgraduates and early career researchers to share their work and begin their publishing career. We welcome input from sources outside of UCD, and those from within it, in order to represent different perspectives across the field of archaeology. We also encourage those from a scientific, historical, anthropological or classical background to contribute.

Interested parties should submit an abstract (300 words max.) by 21st June 2014 to trowelucd@gmail.com. Published articles will be no longer than 3,000 words.

The latest edition of Trowel is almost here

Picture
After an eventful year, the publication of the latest edition of Trowel, student journal of the UCD School of Archaeology, is now imminent. The editors are now in the final stages of formatting and intend to have the journal printed by the end of November.

Although a launch date has yet to be determined, it is expected that one will be announced in the coming week.

Trowel XIV marks the 25th anniversary of the journal and in celebration of this, homage will be paid to earlier editions in terms of dimensions, artwork and even with regard to the themes of some of the written contributions. In looking to the future, Trowel XIV will depart from all previous volumes in an endeavour to become a journal for all students of archaeology – undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate alike.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the editors at trowelucd@gmail.com.

Trowel XIV - Now accepting abstracts!

Picture
A new year has rolled around, and with it a new edition of UCD School of Archaeology’s student journal Trowel forthcoming. After the fantastic success of Trowel XIII, both in quality of publication as well as enthusiasm of application, it is with great pride and excitement that the 2012/2013 editors are now asking for interested parties to contemplate putting forward papers of their own.

First and foremost, do not be put off! This is, above all else, a student led and published endeavour. It is for students that it is run. Whether your writing is already worthy of “antiquity” or still requiring a little work we are here to help, and we hope that any perceived formalities will not put you off.

Articles should be 3000 words (2000 for undergraduates), but for now all we need is a 300-word abstract, which should be submitted by March 15th.

The provisional deadline of the completed paper will be June 7th, with the aim of publishing in September of this year.

This is a golden opportunity for students to experience the process of submitting a paper, and seeing your name in print, outside of the world of formal academia. Most of all we want this to be fun.

So, to any and all that have ever wanted to write up a paper for a journal, to experience the process of drafting and collaboration, or to see yourself published then please write up your abstract soon and send it on to us at trowelucd@gmail.com.

While you are here you might also wish to look over back issues which can be found from the links above. Perhaps they might serve as inspiration for your own piece with us!

Many thanks, and hope to see you all in the inbox soon!

Editors,
Trowel XIV
